Great news! Shopping by appointment is officially a thing of the past for non-essential stores in the Netherlands on April 28 and in Belgium on April 26. To help our retailer community with this, we have listed 5 handy reopening tips. This will allow you to reopen optimally and give your customers a well-prepared, warm welcome!
For Belgium, a maximum of 1 customer per store (or a maximum of 2 from the same household) applies and in Dutch stores a maximum of 1 customer per 25m2 and a maximum of 2 customers per floor is allowed. Belgian hairdressers and beauticians are also allowed to reopen, which has been allowed in the Netherlands since 3 March. For both countries, there is a maximum opening time for non-essential stores until 8:00 PM.
The shopping-by-appointment rule is therefore no longer applicable for both countries. According to the Belgian trade federation Comeos, 75% of the customers did not come to the store (Source: Gondola, April 2021). But the Dutch trade association INretail is also happy that the stores are allowed to open again: "" For us, the most important point was that shopping by appointment is disappearing from the scene, because that doesn't work. " (Source: NOW, April 2021).

Before you can open again, it is important to ensure a safe shopping environment. Place, among other things, disinfectant, a mapped out walking route, table screens and mouth masks in the shop. Make sure that your customers can always maintain a distance of 1.5 meters between each other, but also between you and your employees. Ask at the entrance if they can wear a mouth mask, disinfect their hands and want to adhere to the other security measures such as contactless payment. You can do this by setting up a special standing table for this.
Do not forget to regularly clean your shopping baskets, as well as clothes hangers and other items that customers use while shopping. Finally, provide good ventilation.
